Design and artwork for a 90 page kitchen appliance catalogue

THE BRIEF

We were asked to produce a trade catalogue for a large European kitchen appliance company with an established brand.

THE SOLUTION

The catalogue would be used to relaunch the brand into the UK market with a contemporary mediterranean look and feel. Many of the items featured had only recently progressed into production therefore no lifestyle photographs featuring them were available. Our first task was to take highly finished CGI images of the products and integrate them into stock contemporary kitchen settings using Photoshop. The design itself was based on an established template but there was still plenty of wriggle-room for us to put our own creative mark on it. Creating the artwork involved breaking it down into bite-size sections, each section being signed-off before progressing to the next. We chose a signature colour for each of the sections and bled it off two trimmed edges of each page to create a quick visual guide to where each section started and finished, a simple aid for sales teams when flicking through the catalogue during presentations. All text was supplied digitally and we worked very closely with the client to ensure that all quoted technical specifications and important details were correct. The artwork was then prepared for print.

THE RESULT

The catalogue was printed and finished locally by our regular printing firm, we have a great relationship with them and we're well-versed in how each other works. The page count was too high for traditional stapling/stitching so we opted for perfect-binding. This meant that we needed to create a spine for the catalogue, the printer provided measurements based on our chosen paper stock which took the guesswork out of it. Three weeks later the catalogue was delivered direct to the client.
